Baking has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I was originally taught cake decorating by my Mom who had a small, home-based business and I loved spending time with her as she was creating. Her influence and my memories of this special bond are a big part of who I am and I still own, and use, many of her cake decorating tools. As a teen, in the 1970s - yes I'm that old - I remember making birthday cakes for all my friends and siblings and helping my Mom with her orders as often as I could. After graduating school, I began my corporate career and over the next 3 decades, my passion took a back seat, however, I somehow found time to make cakes for special family events - weddings, baptisms, holidays, birthdays, etc., and I always made time to ensure my daughters had spectacular birthday cakes. After 35 years in a corporate setting, I retired and needed a "new" focus. Of course, baking and decorating came to mind and I enrolled in an intensive 10-day professional cake decorating course. While spending time honing my skills, I realized how happy cake decorating made me and I decided it was time to make my passion my focus. Sweet Lady Cakes was born in 2009 as a home-based business and I create customized cakes and cookies for people in the Toronto area. Over the past couple of years I've been in the process of streamlining my business by doing fewer cakes and perfecting the cookie part of my business. This has lead me to enter more competitions and, to my great surprise, I placed Second in my category in 2023 and in 2024 I was awarded First in my category and Best in Show at the Icing Inspirations Cake and Cookie Competition.

This work brings me great joy and my clients' responses when they pick up their orders shows me that I do indeed create happiness, one cake (or cookie) at a time. I know my Mom would be very proud!
